New Series: A Bible and a Passport

New Series: A Bible and a Passport

In 1984, most of our first few church leaders were university students. Many of them had never visited another country. Some had never been off the island of Luzon, where Metro Manila is located. Few had ever even seen a passport, much less possessed one. It was an unlikely group to launch a worldwide church-planting movement!

Yet, they started learning what it meant to follow Christ by laying their hands on an old National Geographic map and interceding for the nations one by one. Pastor Steve Murrell also empowered them that a Bible and a passport were all they needed to answer God’s call to make disciples of all nations.

From those humble beginnings, the gospel has been planted in 82 nations—yet still, we continue to reach for more. And since then, Psalm 2:8 has always been our prayer:

“Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.”

Pray for Every Filipino Family To Be Rooted in God’s Word

Pray for Every Filipino Family To Be Rooted in God’s Word

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” — Hebrews 4:12

The annual National Bible Month is always an opportunity to minister God’s word to our countrymen. Thousands of Bibles, along with our One2one booklets, are being distributed to families across the nation every year.

On January 29, 2024, we celebrated the 7th National Bible Day with the Body of Christ at the Every Nation building.

It was a time when we gathered and received His word afresh. Each testimony shared is a testament to the transforming power of God’s word—bringing about change that goes beyond the different spheres of influence in our nation.

God’s word is and must be the very ground from which our societal pillars rise. And most importantly, it is and must be the very ground of our families, and of our hearts.

It is the lamp to our feet and the light to our path (Psalm 119).

This one book, inspired by God—written by some forty authors from different backgrounds, nations, cultures, and periods over a thousand years, translated into thousands of languages, and yet, tells the same, greatest story of all time:

God’s redeeming love for His people.

And through Christ, you and I can be part of that story, too.

Let’s keep on interceding for our nation. Here are some prayer points:

  1. Pray that the word of God will pierce through our hearts and transform our minds daily. Let’s ask for an increased faith to meditate on it day and night.
  2. Pray for greater unity among the Body of Christ as we serve together in faithfully advancing the gospel of Christ, through our unique God-given calling.
  3. Declare a word of blessing for the Philippines. May every family be founded and rooted in God’s word.
Develop the habit of going deeper into God’s Word!

Develop the habit of going deeper into God’s Word!

We are devoting ourselves to study and obey the Word of God together this year. One of the practical ways to do this is by making a commitment to read the Bible daily and apply it. This discipline enables us to sustain our devotion to God and His Word. A simple way to help develop this habit is through the S.O.A.P. method. You may use this tool together with a Bible reading plan.

Practice S.O.A.P.

Follow this simple format when reading the Bible.

Scripture

Read a portion of Scripture slowly and thoughtfully.

Observation

Reflect on the Word. What does the Word say about God and the people in the passage?

Application

Apply the Word. Does it reveal an attitude to change, a sin to forsake, a specific promise to claim, an example to follow, a command to obey? What did you learn from this passage, and how will you apply it in your life?

Prayer

Respond to the Word in prayer. Pray the Word.

Sample of S.O.A.P. Entry

Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways! You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes! Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments. I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules. I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me! (Psalm 119:1-8, ESV)

Scripture

“Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.” (Psalm 119:6, ESV)

Observation

Following God’s commandments protects me and keeps me from being put to shame. His rules and commands are not burdensome, but are for my benefit and protection.

Application

I need to fix my eyes on His commands. For me to do that, I need to read the Word more consistently. It’s easy to get distracted and fix my eyes on other things, but I need to fix my eyes on God!

Prayer

Father, Thank You for Your Word and all Your commandments. Thank You that this is for my benefit and protection. Give me the grace to consistently fix my eyes on Your Word, no matter what. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The little known women in Moses’s life

The little known women in Moses’s life

“It takes a community of people to raise a generation of leaders who are connected to God and to one another.” In this blog entry, Pastor Joey shares the story of five women in the life of Biblical leader Moses. God used these women to make Moses who he is.
