Typhoon Karding entered the Philippine area of responsibility on September 23, 2022, and reached super typhoon category at 5 a.m. Sunday with landfall in Central Luzon. Torrential rains and fierce winds have severely battered the islands of Polillo in Quezon, and some parts of Bulacan, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, and Aurora. Storm Signal No. 5 was raised over these areas, with Storm Signal No. 4 raised over Metro Manila.
Quezon Province is hardest hit by Typhoon Karding. There is still power interruption and limited communication lines in the provinces of Quezon and Camarines. Thousands of families were evacuated for safety because of the strong winds, flooding, and landslides in many areas. Some roads in Luzon are impassable at the moment. Some 52,000 people are displaced, with casualties reported in Bulacan and reports of missing individuals in Camarines Norte. Nueva Ecija has declared a state of calamity.
As we call on everyone to come together to help and pray for our country and those who have been affected by this typhoon, let us be reminded to put our faith forward and our full dependence on our merciful God. As it says in Psalm 57:1–2,
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by.
We can be assured that amidst the storms of life, we have a strong God who will provide for us and take care of us. In light of this, let us pray.
- Pray for divine protection over the areas affected by Typhoon Karding. Pray that those affected will feel safe and secure in the presence of God.
- Pray for comfort, hope, and provision for the affected families. Pray that God will console their hearts, ease their pain, and restore their losses.
- Pray for the love and compassion of the church to abound through prayers and relief efforts. May the church be a beacon of hope and strength in this trying time.
As our nation rebuilds, may the message of the gospel continue to shine and give hope. Thank you for generously giving to bless our countrymen. May God bless you and keep you safe!
