Doc Alsun’s mother raised him in the Christian faith. Though he went to church and grew up with Christian values, God led him on a journey to know Him deeply and personally.
His college years were when his faith was tested. Being away from his home in the province to study pre-med in Manila, he knew that he needed a church community. His friend invited him to Victory Taft. This was the beginning of his discipleship journey—but it took a long time.
Struggling with insecurity, he often compared himself to the people in church. So though he was attending church, he still felt hesitant to be discipled. Despite his reservations, the church community never stopped reaching out to him.
“I saw how God really pursued me through people who faithfully discipled me, walking me through this journey of knowing Christ more.” – Doc Alsun Cabarles
God made Himself known to Doc Alsun in a personal way and continued to secure his calling as a doctor.
As a nephrologist and med school professor, he shares his faith and disciples his patients, students, and others with the same compassion and perseverance he experienced in his life.
More than a career, Doc Alsun sees where he is as a calling to advance God’s kingdom. Every talent, skill, and opportunity is to honor God and lead people to Christ.
