Dear Victory family,
In the last two weeks, Victory Ortigas has had online prayer meetings and social media posts that have brought up many questions and sentiments from our church members and the public. They prayed for government leaders from both the administration and opposition. On behalf of the leadership of our church, we would like to respond and provide some insight into the situation.
We have a biblical mandate to pray for those in government and reach out to them. Scripture commands us to pray for those in authority (1 Timothy 2:1–4) and make disciples (Matthew 28:18–20), regardless of position or political affiliation. As a church, we have always taken this seriously and will keep believing to disciple our nation.
We do sincerely apologize for the lack of sensitivity and discretion of these posts and messages. They have caused a misunderstanding and offense to some of our church members. The posts were not intended to give a platform or endorsement to any government leader or political party. We humbly apologize for what happened and acknowledge that this was not the best way to go about it. We want you to know that we are learning from this, as we have learned from mistakes we’ve made in the past.
Those who have been part of our church for a while now probably know that we don’t make political endorsements or force people to have particular leanings. We respect everyone’s right to choose who they think should be placed in positions of leadership in government. As Christians, we believe that we have a role to play in nation-building, including praying for our leaders, participating in civil rights exercises, and bringing change in our nation through discipleship, gospel demonstration, and gospel declaration.
We ask you to continue standing with us in prayer and in remaining steadfast in our mission to honor God and make disciples. God bless you, your families, and our nation.
