Teaching with Effectiveness

Paul Barker speaks for this month's
ENLI Leader Lecture

“What would it be like in our educational system if teachers were evaluated based on their students’ grades?”

Pastor Paul Barker, the director of Leadership Development for Every Nation in the United States, posed this question to the teachers, mentors, parents, and preachers gathered at the Every Nation Assembly Hall last November 4 and 5. His query brings to mind the great responsibility that teachers have in imparting knowledge to the next generation. This leads to the thought that teaching is more than just providing information—teaching must be effective.

Over 800 people attend the two-day seminarPastor Paul spoke before an audience of 800 people in Every Nation Leadership Institute’s (ENLI’s) Leader Lecture entitled, “Teaching with Effectiveness” to impart principles on the method of teaching, learning, and communication.

Paul Barker stated, “Teachers don’t just give information; they transfer life.” But how can this task be accomplished? Pastor Paul talked about important aspects such as connection, relevance, and retention in teaching. “Education must affect both the thoughts and actions of students,” he said. It is therefore the job of educators to help their students understand, retain, and apply information.

Participants listen to Pastor Paul's discussion
on presentional teaching He also pointed out that effective teaching is a result of good communication. One of the most striking things said in the seminar was that “presentation is more important than information . . . If your audience doesn’t listen, it doesn’t matter how vital the information is.” Pastor Paul encouraged people to improve on their ability to make information clear, appealing, and interesting in the process of teaching. Aside from suggesting useful ideas, he also instructed participants to discover their own unique style of communication.

By the end of the two-day seminar, Pastor Paul’s message helped people understand that teaching does not just happen in the classroom. Every person has a life and message to share. As he stated so well, “Real teaching takes place in the daily affairs of life . . . Every situation can become a possible learning opportunity.”

ENLI Leader Lectures are seminars designed to equip small group leaders with a better understanding of the Word of God and its application in our lives. These lectures are taught by established pastors and Bible teachers from around the world, and are part of ENLI’s commitment to equip a new generation of Christian leaders.

Race for LIFE Raises Help for Scholars

Put on your running gear and get ready to run the extra mile for the Real LIFE scholars! Real LIFE Foundation is all set for its biggest fund raising event of the year, Race for LIFE. The first-ever fun run event will be participated by more than 2,000 registrants who are all out to have a great time. The runners will compete in either the five-kilometer race or the ten-kilometer challenge. For each race there is no doubt that those who joined do not just set their sights on the prize but are in it to support the cause of Real LIFE Foundation.

Real LIFE started the scholarship program in 2003. The program’s purpose is to provide educational assistance to financially challenged high school and college students with promising academic standings. The program covers the scholars’ tuition fees, school materials, uniforms, transportation, and meal allowances. Real LIFE also requires each of them to attend mentoring classes in Leadership, Integrity, Faith, and Excellence. This gives each scholar every possible advantage in character to ensure their success in the future. To date, Real LIFE has helped more than 150 scholars. And this number will increase as more people are expected to partner with Real LIFE Foundation in serving the poor.

The November 22 event is Real LIFE Foundation’s way of creating more awareness about this cause. And as the fun run starts at the crack of dawn by the Every Nation grounds, Real LIFE hopes to get more people on board with their vision. Currently, the number of registrants already exceeded the organizers’ expectations.

Like other contests, prizes await those who registered the best time. But the best accomplishment Real LIFE Foundation wants to see in the future is for more people to join them in helping our marginalized youth win the real race for life.

All proceeds for this event will go to the tuition and other fees of Real LIFE scholars. For more information about Real LIFE Foundation, please visit their website at www.igivetolife.com.

Victory in Batangas City

Another church is opening in the province of Batangas. This October, Victory will launch weekly services in the province’s capital, Batangas City.

Women in Batangas in a small group meeting In 2002, Victory planted a church in Lipa City, Batangas. For the past six years, the church in Lipa has been growing, with more leaders stepping up and small groups being formed. As more lives were touched by the gospel, Batangas City residents would come to the weekly gatherings held in Lipa. Starting with an outreach in the University of Batangas, attendees from Batangas City began to hold small groups in fastfood chains and workplaces in their area.

By the end of June this year, Victory began holding Sunday gatherings in Days Hotel, Batangas City. The weekly services allowed more people to be reached, including residents from nearby coastal municipalities, namely San Pascual and Bauan. After one month, the congregation outgrew its venue, which led to the holding of two services every Sunday at another venue, the Hotel Ponte Fino.

Victory Batangas in their Sunday gathering
at the Hotel Ponte Fino Today, Victory Batangas has twenty-four small groups, and more than 250 people attend its weekly gatherings. The consistent growth of the church calls for a larger venue to provide more people with opportunities to be encouraged by God’s Word.

In line with this, we are excited to announce that starting October 26, Victory Batangas will hold services at the Batangas Provincial Auditorium every Sunday at 9 AM. Parents may also bring their children to Kids Church, which will be available at the same time and venue.

Victory Batangas plans to reach more people in campuses and workplaces, as well as families in Batangas City. Let us continue to pray for the growth of this church plant. Tell your friends, relatives, or anyone you know to go and visit Victory Batangas.

The School of Campus Ministry

In the past years, Victory’s pastors, cross-cultural workers, and campus ministers have been equipped through Every Nation Leadership Institute’s (ENLI) School of World Missions. This is where our ministers would undergo the one-year training program for their work in the ministry. A significant number of enrollees were entering the school each year to become future campus ministers. Seeing this potential for more campus ministers to be raised, and as a response to the need for more workers in the campuses, ENLI began its School of Campus Ministry.

Coney Reyes teaches the class about communication

The School of Campus Ministry offers a two-month specialized program, which focuses on essential topics for campus ministers. This program gives students a great opportunity to develop their individual abilities and practice certain skills such as critical thinking, creative planning, dynamic preaching, and Bible interpretation. Through engaging lectures and group discussions, students are encouraged to express themselves more, build relationships and learn from each other. This hands-on approach to their learning prepares them to become more effective and relevant life coaches, communicators, and counselors as they interact with young people in the campuses. More than just knowledge and skill, the school helps students grow in spiritual disciplines and character.

Future campus ministers in group discussion

From its first run last June, the school has produced thirty new campus ministers who are currently serving in different campuses across the nation. This October, the school has started again with a new batch composed of twenty-two students. We believe that as these men and women are equipped for their calling, God will work through them to make an impact in the lives of young people.

The first batch of the School of Campus Ministry with
School of Campus Ministry Director Joseph BonifacioThe School of Campus Ministry will be offering its program twice a year. And even as this opens the door to produce more campus ministers, the work does not end with the school. These ministers will be out in the campuses to help young people excel in their academics, develop leadership skills, be a positive influence in their community, and pursue a God-centered lifestyle.

New Victory Church in Malolos City

Watch video!

We are glad to share this news about our latest provincial church plant. Victory Malolos will open its doors to residents of Bulacan on September 14. This is an addition to our four existing Victory churches in Central Luzon.

This church plant began in October of 2006 at a coffee shop in the busiest section of Malolos City. Five couples from Victory Caloocan and a couple from Victory Fort Bonifacio who were residents of Bulacan faithfully met every week and prayed for the opportunity for a church to be planted in the city.

By January 2007, the group began holding twice-a-month gatherings at the Bulacan State University Hostel with Pastor Ferdie del Valle, senior pastor of Victory Caloocan. Around fifty people started to come to these Saturday meetings.

Students and professors from Bulacan State University began attending, and this paved the way for more people to be reached. With members inviting friends and relatives, new small groups were formed and more people became part of the congregation. After five months of consistent growth, the twice-a-month meeting soon developed into a weekly Saturday convergence at the Hiyas Convention Center.

Currently, an average of 180 people attend their Saturday gatherings, and twenty small groups meet weekly in the area. Because of this breakthrough, Victory Malolos will hold a regular 9 AM service every Sunday at the Hiyas Convention Center beginning September 14. Kids Church will also be available at the same time and venue. This church plant takes us a step closer to reaching other cities and municipalities of Bulacan as we continue to heed the call to honor God and make disciples.

We invite you, your friends, and your family to visit Victory Malolos and help spread the news about this new church in Bulacan. For more information, check out their website at www.victorymalolos.org.

A small seed is not just life in miniature size but it also brings a promise of a great harvest. This principle of the seed is mentioned several times in Scripture. Matthew 13:31,32 says God’s kingdom is like a small mustard seed that can grow into a tree where many birds can perch on or seek shade. When a tiny seed is sown and planted, it can grow into something that can bless many.

Through the World Partners program, Victory sows seeds of financial help and prayers to the nations. Victory has always valued world missions as a movement and in 2004, the World Partners program was formally launched, supporting church plants, missionaries, outreaches, and relief efforts in different parts of the globe. The program gives everyone an opportunity to sow and reach nations for the gospel.

Last year, through your faithful support, World Partners helped finance two medical mission trips to Myanmar’s cyclone victims and the continual training and care of new and long-term missionaries on the field, including those in restricted countries. As we continue to sow more, we can bank on what the Bible says that God will be the one to grow these seeds. With this, we can confidently look forward to a great harvest of lives changed by the gospel all over the world.

Let us see ourselves as a vital part in God’s work by planting more seeds in the nations.
Victory Pioneer, one of the newest Victory locations in Metro Manila, will be introducing two new schedules for their Sunday gatherings on September 7. There will be an additional morning service at 9 AM, and another afternoon service at 3 PM.

Since the church was planted in November 2007, Victory Pioneer has experienced consistent growth in their Sunday gatherings. Church members caught the vision to see lives changed in Mandaluyong City. Many have been eager to reach out to their families and friends, inviting more people to weekly services and small groups. Since July this year, around 900 people were added during regular church gatherings including youth and Kids’ Ministry. The additional schedules for Sunday meetings will allow the church to grow further, and encourage more people to receive God’s Word.

Victory Pioneer plans to reach more students, professionals, and families in the different areas of Mandaluyong City. Surrounded by condominiums, barangays, call centers, and campuses, the church will continue to share God’s love and honor Him in its community.

Victory Pioneer holds its services at the third level of Forum Robinsons Pioneer Mall. If you are near this area, we encourage you to invite friends and family and visit Victory Pioneer.
