Devotion for March, 2009
Day 30: Game On - Living it Up
Monday, March 9, 2009You have been given an extraordinary gift-your life. You have an exceptional calling-to be the very best you God created you to be. Your goal is to unwrap this gift and use all that you’ve been given in the pursuit of what matters most-loving God and loving other people.
Today’s Challenge:
Now that you’ve completed the One Month to Live Challenge, continue in the One Month to Live Lifestyle. Log on to www.OneMonthtoLive.com for continual daily encouragement and inspiration in the four lifestyle principles.
“I have come in order that you might have life-life in all its fullness.”
John 10:10 GNT

Day 29: Game Over - Dying to Live
Sunday, March 8, 2009God put you on this earth for a reason, and He has a plan for our life. But this life is not the end. One day you will stop breathing, but you won’t stop living. You’ll live forever in eternity.
Today’s Challenge:
Spend some time thinking about how you envision heaven. Draw a picture, take a photograph, make a collage from magazine cutouts, or make a sculpture that represents heaven to you. It can be as personal as you want to make it. Place it in a location that will remind you of where you want to spend eternity.
“A wise person thinks much about death, while the fool thinks only about having a good time now.”
Ecclesiastes 7:4 NLT

Day 28: Footprint - Leaving a Lasting Impression
Saturday, March 7, 2009If you want to leave a legacy of grace for those who come after you, you must begin by acknowledging your personal need for God’s forgiveness. One of the best ways to do this is by examining your conscience each day. When you keep short accounts with God, you prevent the spiritual debris from accumulating and blocking your ability to love and serve.
Today’s Challenge:
Think of a loved one who has passed away. How would you describe his or her spiritual legacy? What would you like to emulate about this person’s legacy or character? What would you like to avoid?
“No matter how deep the stain of your sins, I can remove it. I can make you as clean as freshly fallen snow. Even if you are stained as red as crimson, I can make you white as wool.”
Isaiah 1:18 NLT

Day 27: Starfish - Making a World of Difference
Friday, March 6, 2009If you touch one life, you may make a difference between life and death-physical as well as spiritual-for another human being. If you make it a habit to do what you can, where you can, you will be transformed as you help others.
Today’s Challenge:
Needs are all around us, and we don’t have to leave our neighborhood, let alone our country, to give sacrificially. This week, initiate a local service project in your area. Commit to a specific goal and plan for getting the job done.
“…offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing, and perfect will.”
Romans 12:1-2

Day 26: Collisions - Staying the Course When Your Life Crashes
Thursday, March 5, 2009You get to choose which path you take in life. You can travel in God’s direction, or you can chart your own course. When you choose to make all your decisions without consulting Him, it’s like heading the wrong way down a one-way street. IT ends in a collision with God, which isn’t pretty.
Today’s Challenge:
Make a list from one to five, and write down the desires of your heart. Be as honest with yourself as possible. Spend some time reflecting on each desire and why you long for it. Commit your list to God, asking for His perspective regarding each item.
“Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord;…”
Psalm 37:4-5

Day 25: Sticks and Stones - Using Eternal Building Materials
Wednesday, March 4, 2009Most of the material possessions you’ll leave behind won’t last much longer than you did. Your money will be spent, your home will deteriorate, and your personal belongings will be gone. But if you build your life on convictions, character, and community, then you will have established an eternal memorial that will benefit countless lives.
Today’s Challenge:
Make a list of five character traits you would like to be remembered for after you’ve left this earth. How have you seen God cultivate these in your life? Which ones does He seem to be concentrating on right now?
“But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach.”
Matthew 7:26 MSG

Day 24: Seeds - Planting for the Future
Tuesday, March 3, 2009People are created in God’s image as spiritual beings who will live for eternity, either with Him or apart from Him. If you invest in people’s lives, then your legacy becomes like a giant oak, providing life for generations to come.
Today’s Challenge:
More important than our possessions are our values. Write down values you hope to leave behind and who you hope will inherit them from you.
“Generation after generation stands in awe of your work; each one tells stories of your mighty acts.”
Psalm 145:4 MSG

Day 23: Sandcastles - Creating a Lasting Legacy
Monday, March 2, 2009There are thousands of things you can do in life, but there are only a few things God intends for you to accomplish. When you live out His plan for your life, everything falls into place.
Today’s Challenge:
Write your obituary. Start with what your life has been so far and then continue it well into the future. What do you want to be known for when you pass on? What legacy will you leave in your relationships?
“So be careful how you live, not as fools but as those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity for doing good in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do.”
Ephesians 5:15-17 NLT

Day 22: Road Signs - Experiencing a Personal Miracle
Sunday, March 1, 2009If you want God to work a miracle in your life, you have to 1) admit your need and 2) go to God as the only one who can lead you in the right direction. When you go directly to God, He provides the power, wisdom, and love to focus on your best interests.
Today’s Challenge:
Make a list of “empty vessels” in your life-people around you who need your input, resources, love, and attention. Whose need seems most urgent? Pray for God’s leading and look for a way to pour yourself into this person’s life this week.
“If you will give Me the little bit you have, I can do great things through you.”
Mark 10:27
