Our North Luzon leaders listened to Pastor Ferdie Cabiling, senior pastor of Victory Ortigas, as he shared a message on discipleship. They heard how each of us are to recall who Jesus is, recalibrate ourselves to align with God’s priority and purpose, reignite our fire for the lost, and reconnect ourselves with God and fellow believers. Each of them were given a fresh mandate to reach out to people with the gospel.

North Luzon is close to Victory’s heart; our very first provincial church plant was in the North Luzon city of Dagupan. It’s less than a month to go before the Every Nation Asia Campus Conference: Ignite 2013!

Right now, we have around 9,000 delegates from all over the Philippines and Asia attending this student gathering on May 29 to 31 at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

The Ignite committee, campus missionaries, students, and volunteers are making preparations on the double to make Ignite one memorable experience. But any preparation isn’t complete without prayer.

Please stand with us in prayer for the following:

• Grace, favor, and good health for the event organizers and campus ministers as they prepare for Ignite 2013

• Abundant financial provision for the students, especially those that are coming from outside of Manila

• Good weather and safety for the delegates on the week of the conference

When I was younger, I chose to block everyone out of my life. You could say I was the typical shy loner that no one could reach. I grew up in a Christian home, but I didn’t think the Christian life was meant to be lived with others.

Later, someone invited me to join a Victory group. I was shocked when I first attended. “How could these people be so open to sharing their weaknesses openly?” I thought.

You see, I grew up trying to put up a strong front. Little did I know that it would lead to my downfall. I began experiencing depression and I started to doubt if really God loved me. I felt lonely, and I couldn’t talk to anyone because I didn’t feel like they would accept me.

All that changed when I became part of a Victory group. The change was gradual, but I learned so many things. I can now say that I have experienced, encountered, and continually testify to the love of God like never before.

I learned that living a victorious life includes being part of a spiritual family that lifts its members up in faith; they strengthen each other even when their weaknesses are in plain sight. Living a Christian life doesn’t have to be like walking a lonely path, and it was never meant to be that way!

It’s amazing how God loves us so much! He has taught us to love one another and encourage one another in His Word. I would not be here, growing in my relationship with Jesus, if not for the people around me. Through their godly example, I learned to give, and not just receive God’s love.

By God’s grace, I can say that I have overcome my extreme shyness. God has ignited in me a passion to share His word with other people. I now want to help more young women who are going through the same things I did before. They need to know that Someone cares and loves them like no other!

Off we go!
Our Ten Days mission trip in Hong Kong in October 2012 was an incredible ride marked by amazing ups and downs. For the most part, the journey was met by wonderful people who brought joy to our hearts. As we met students from different universities, we had the chance to befriend them, encourage them, and even pray for them.

Our Every Nation church in Hong Kong meets at three different locations each week, including a Hong Kong campus. Our three churches cater to different groups of people, and minister to their unique needs as well.

Discipleship is relationship
When we arrived in Hong Kong, our Every Nation church was holding a discipleship campaign called “Each One, Reach One.” They were rallying their local leaders to be serious in making disciples, and we consider it a privilege to support our church in discipleship.

Four of us helped build relationships with the students in one of the universities we visited. We took the time to dine with the students, hold game nights with them, and even cook for them! Being in an international school, we were able to meet students from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Sweden, and the US. It was a humbling opportunity to interact with students of different nations and cultures—because we trust that when they go home to their home countries, they will carry with them the seeds of the gospel! Only God can orchestrate this kind of opportunity, and we are humbled and in awe of His works!

The mission team from Victory Zamboanga taught the students how to play Pinoy Henyo, a Filipino game.

Meanwhile, three of our teammates spent time with our Hong Kong church’s local leaders. We encouraged them to not stop sharing the gospel with their colleagues, no matter where they were. We also had the opportunity to join and hold Life groups with a few Filipinos working in Hong Kong!

Attitude of gratitude
All throughout the mission trip, we knew God was right with us. We may have faced some challenges along the way, but we held fast and were confident in what God was doing mightily, not just in our lives, but in the lives of the students, professionals, and families to whom we were ministering.

We are so grateful for everyone who has stood with us in prayer and supported us in our ministry. Most of all, we are thankful that God has never left nor forsaken us!

Our Victory group leaders were able to see a new perspective of their Discipleship Journey. Brand-new discipleship tools, such as discipleship.ph, were also introduced to our Victory group leaders.

Pastor Steve Murrell shared a message about passing the baton of the gospel, reminding the leaders to act as “funnels” and invite people and lead them through the discipleship process.

Amy Dabu, one of the Victory group leaders from Victory City of San Fernando, cites Pastor Steve’s message as one of her personal takeaways. “(As a leader,) I learned that I have to pass on what I received.”

Amy considered herself “reluctant” when it came to sharing about what Jesus did for her. “I did not want to go to another level of my faith. I was content where I was,” she admits. Little by little, she was reminded of Jesus’s commission to go and make disciples. “Leadership is not about the titles or the perks I receive, but leading them to Christ.” Now, she is ready to go and make disciples in her hometown, armed with a big vision and putting her trust and confidence in God!

Amy’s story is just one of the many others we’ve heard from the conference. As our leaders go back to their workplaces, campuses, and families, we are excited to hear more stories of engaging, establishing, equipping, and empowering others for Jesus!

“In every season of our lives, we need to fix our eyes on Him!”

Jane Ibay did what she could with the little she had—but God had so much more for her. Read her story of faith and perseverance!

I grew up in a family of four siblings. My mother was a seamstress and my father, a construction worker. Because of their combined meager earnings, three of us were scholars when we set foot in college.

I considered it a blessing that I had a government scholarship in my first two years of college. However, only my tuition fees were subsidized. I still had to rely on my parents for other expenses.

My mother would give me a PHP 250-a-week allowance when I attended school. Because my daily fare cost PHP 30, I was left with PHP 20 for everything else—food, projects, photocopying expense, and other things. I did not want to ask any more money from my parents because of all the other needs our family had.

To make ends meet, I decided to earn from my meager resources. I started to sell small food items and paper to my classmates. Thankfully, they became loyal customers! My earnings helped me pay for the other expenses I needed—and I was amazed that I had more to give back to God through my tithes!

Meanwhile, my older and younger sisters’ college educations were greatly assisted by the Real LIFE Foundation’s scholarship program. I didn’t know much about Real LIFE or its scholarship program; I had an idea of what Real LIFE was doing, but I was afraid of becoming too dependent on Real LIFE to provide for my education and other needs.

Eventually, after seeing the changes in my sisters’ lives, I ended up desiring to be part of Real LIFE. I knew in my heart this was what God wanted for me, and how He wanted to provide for my future. When I joined my church’s Prayer and Fasting activity, I included securing a Real LIFE scholarship in my list of faith goals.

On the third day of the fast, my Victory group leader informed me that I made it to the Real LIFE Foundation’s initial scholarship screening for the next school year. I was stunned; I did not tell anyone about my desire to join Real LIFE!

What happened after that is a blur. As they say, the rest is history.

“Never doubt God’s faithfulness”
I learned a lot of things while part of Real LIFE’s scholarship program. I’d say the most important lesson I learned would be having faith in God—which means, I must never, never doubt the faithfulness of God. In my season as a Real LIFE scholar, I consistently saw that He did what He said He would. In every season of our lives, we need to fix our eyes on Him.

Aside from Jane, her two sisters are also Real LIFE scholars.

Stewardship
God taught me to be faithful in the small things. Because He blessed me abundantly, I learned to be a blessing to others as well. Every time I stepped out in faith, God would return it in greater measure!

I did not just learn how to be a blessing through God’s resources; I also learned how to be a steward of His blessings. God gave each of us talents and skills, and we must maximize everything given to us. I realized that my underprivileged background did not entitle me to anything—and I don’t have to feel sorry for myself. God created me for a purpose, and I want to share the same truth to others.

I am thankful that I was given this privilege, not just to study or receive allowances, but to also be empowered to live to my fullest potential. Real LIFE helped me to have faith—not in my circumstances, but in God, my Provider and Father.
