“You Promised!” (A Story on Family Salvation)

November 28th, 2011 by Jaymon de la Cruz under:

Do you have family members and relatives whom you’re praying for to have a relationship with God? Jaymon de la Cruz shares a story about answered prayer—that as we believe in Jesus, our families are saved. We hope you’ll be encouraged as we are!

I became a Christian in September 2010 when my best friend from college invited me to church. The preaching just hit me the first time I was there. I felt a different kind of joy and looked forward to hear the message every Sunday.

I tried joining Victory groups, but my schedule wouldn’t fit any of the ones offered to me. Eventually, I met Kristoffer, my current Victory group leader, at a Worship Night. He was very patient with me. We would always meet every week and he introduced the Gospel to me. He also helped me in my walk with God and have a deeper understanding of what it means to be a follower of Christ. He also encouraged me to make disciples, even if I said I wasn’t ready to do so.

I didn’t tell any of my family members about my newfound faith because I didn’t grow up with my parents.  We weren’t able to establish a strong relationship. But I started praying for them. They saw me reading my Bible at home. I would also play praise songs loud enough for them to hear. I prayed that God would touch them even through the music.

Eventually, God began to answer my prayers. One day, my mom saw my photos from my Victory Weekend. I was surprised that she asked about it! I took it as a great opportunity for me to invite her and my siblings to the Mother’s Day service. They were discipled later on, and have gone through Victory Weekend last November.

After months of constant praying, my mom, younger brother, and half-sister are now enjoying the new-found relationship they have with Christ.

I also fasted for my other brother and his girlfriend to come to church with me. God answered my prayer because my brother himself asked me how he could be part of our church. God is faithful!

Because of all that God has done in my family’s life, I’ve realized that we need to hold on to God’s promises. Keep praying. I remember crying out to God: “You promised!” I just held on to that and kept on praying for my family. The Bible says that God is no human to lie and that the prayer of the righteous is powerful. Keep praying and trust God that in His perfect timing, He will make it happen.

Jaymon de la Cruz works as a call center team leader. He attends Victory Pioneer and leads a Victory group in his workplace and in his alma mater, San Beda College.
