After the cyclone Nargis hit Myanmar last May 2, tens of thousands have been reported dead or missing, and a million are left homeless. The storm caused severe destruction in many areas, including the capital city, Yangon. Several areas are still affected by flood and the number of deaths is still increasing. People are still suffering in the aftermath of the calamity because of hunger, thirst, and disease.

Last June 21 to 27, Pastor Jonathan Bocobo of Victory Malate, together with a team of four volunteer doctors and one nurse, all from different Victory congregations, went to Myanmar to offer relief operations and medical services. The situation in Myanmar caused members of Victory churches to give generously, enabling us to provide much needed medicines and supplies for the disaster victims. Our team reached out to people in Kun Gyan Gon, one of the seven townships of Yangon. And though the military Junta has made it difficult for the international community to extend assistance, our church was able to minister to around 400 patients.

In the next few months, Victory will spearhead several projects for the restoration of some areas. We will be donating five water pumps for a village of 300 households, and five water tanks for another village. We are also planning the reconstruction of a small bridge, one road, and a daycare center for a school. Scholarships for orphans will also be given.

Our church in Yangon has been growing, and the favor we received from the township officers paves the way for a future church plant in Kun Gyan Gon. This time is an opportunity to reach the nation of Myanmar. Let us continue to support this nation; pray for restoration and that more people will come to know Christ.
